    Abstract: At present there are a number of indications that sterile neutrinos with a mass in the eV range and relatively large mixing with the active sector may exist. However, such neutrinos seen incompatible with precision cosmology because they would have too large an impact on structure formation.

    Title: Planck Constraints on Inflation

    Abstract:We will discuss the implications of the first Planck CMB data for our understanding inflation. We will see that a power-law primordial spectrum provides a good fit to the temperature spectrum, and that under this assumption we can discriminate among several single-field inflationary models. We will review the issue of possible features in the primordial spectrum, and show the result of a reconstruction of the observable inflaton potential beyond slow-roll. Finally, we will show that models with a fraction of isocurvature mode are not significantly favoured.

    Title: Dark matter within the minimal flavour violation ansatz

    Abstract:In my talk, I will consider dark matter candidates corresponding to new scalar degrees of freedom coupling to quarks in a way consistent with minimal flavor violation hypothesis. I will discuss the experimental constraints on the viable parameter space of these models and explain how their phenomenology can differ from the scalar dark matter models with a coupling to quarks through SMS portal only.

    Title: New Light Species and the CMB

    Abstract: I will discuss recent work done in collaboration with Christopher Brust and David E. Kaplan. Specifically, I will consider the effects of new light species on the Cosmic Microwave Background within the framework of effective field theory. These effects are parameterized in terms of the relativistic degrees of freedom present at recombination.

    Title: Constraining Annihilating Dark Matter with the Cosmic Microwave Background

    Abstract:I will provide a brief introduction to annihilating dark matter and the CMB, and show what effects one can have on the other. Building upon this, I will discuss recent results in which we used the newly-released WMAP9 and South Pole Telescope (SPT) data to update constraints on the thermally-averaged annihilation cross-section of DM into standard model particles. Using a realistic energy deposition model, I will show the effect of DM annihilation on CMB photons at recombination as well as during the epoch of reionization, when halo formation can enhance the DM contribution. I will discuss further constraints, including the Gunn-Peterson optical depth measurements, and the late-time matter temperature measurements from Lyman-alpha observations. This is based on work with Laura Lopez-Honorez, Olga Mena and Sergio Palomares-Ruiz.
